Hanul Bahm is a multiplatform producer and content strategist based in California and Georgia. She works closely with commercial and editorial clients to solve problems: through strategy, data, and cultural expression.

I started my career in New York publishing, focusing on photography, magazines, and graphic design. Moving to San Francisco, I produced volumes of copy, content, and live productions for the Bay Area arts and cultural sector. In Los Angeles, I worked in film, video, and digital content, contributing to public media and cultural institutions. Atlanta is where I picked up interactive design, business strategy, and creative direction.

Along the way, I got my MFA in Film/Video from CalArts and BA in Photography, Graphic Design and Journalism from Rutgers University.

Through it all, I remain committed to people and the power of group processes. I also believe we owe ourselves continual reinvention, as the content media landscape and levers of commerce are ever-shifting.

Creatives are constantly tasked to plough through challenge. Every project reinforces our capacity to thrive or suffer through what can feel like a repeat stress test. My hope is to help teams savor the process, believe in themselves, and find triumph in completion.

A bit more about me
I had a childhood in Seoul while South Korea was still a developing country. My appreciation for resourcefulness and community life stems from there. I also had a childhood in Southern California’s South Bay. I grew up next to a concrete embankment of the LA River. I retain good memories of time spent outside and in others’ homes.

I love house music and timeless music from any place, any era. My maternal grandpa was a lifelong bookseller. I grew up surrounded by books. My favorite bookstore was Oxford Books on Peachtree Battle and Pharr in Atlanta. They had everything from Sandra Cisneros’ poetry to Dreams by Akira Kurosawa to The Tibetan Book of the Dead.

Muir Woods is nice. So is Yosemite. It’d be nice to see more of God’s great earth.

People ask about my name sometimes. Hanul Bahm, or Bahm Hanul (밤 하늘) in Korean, means “night sky.” I was granted a freebie name change when up for U.S. citizenship. A few weeks before my ceremony, after night school at City College San Francisco, I felt the clouds, moon, and stars walking me home. That’s how I got my name.
